The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is one of the largest volunteer-based emergency services organizations in the world, consisting of about 59,000 people. These volunteers, career fire fighters, support and administration staff are primarily responsible for responding to incidents and suppressing fires but are also involved in such areas as fire safety building inspections, delivering community education and safety programs, conducting fire investigations and assisting with fire prevention planning.

Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria (VFBV) represents the united voice of CFA volunteers and advocates on their behalf to CFA and other stakeholders. The Board develops policy that is based on volunteer input and is involved in management of issues that are key to all CFA volunteers.
